The material and technology - sapphire wafers and MOCVD growth - for manufacturing of LEDs is very different. Due to this inherent problems such as bending, transparency or fragility are introducing different requirements to processing technology.

The adaption to these challenges is in progress or already completed for many equipment suppliers. The large number of equipments that is introduced to the LED market right now is solely designed and engineered for this market, clearly reflects this trend. An example here would be the EVG560HBL http://www.evgroup.com/en/products/bonding/waferbonding/evg560hbl/

In this progress the mature quality system and metrology of the IC and MEMS industry is being more and more transferred to the LED industry.
